As breeders we have our own code of ethics we agree to abide by, so i thought the following may be food for thought.

CODE OF ETHICS FOR OWNERS

Owners should think carefully and take advice before getting a kitten or cat and choose a breed of cat suited to their lifestyle. They should only keep as many cats as they can care for adequately.

Cats and kittens must be provided with warm and comfortable housing, with plenty of opportunity for exercise and play. Cats and kittens should be kept indoors at night for their own safety.

Drinking water must be available at all times and cats and kittens must be fed regularly and adequately.

Cats and Kittens should have a clean litter tray available at all times.

All cats need some grooming to keep the coat in good condition and to check for parasites, eg. Fleas. Longhair cats need daily grooming to prevent the formation of knots and matted areas of fur.

Vaccinations for flue and enteritis should be kept up to date with your veterinary’s advice. Veterinary attention must be sought whenever a cat or kitten is showing signs of illness.

Kittens should be kept inside until at least 2 weeks after neutering of the animal.
An older cat requires a longer period of confinement after neutering to allow hormones to settle down.
Cats and kittens should be neutered at the age recommended by your veterinary surgeon or breeder.
When an adult cat is taken to a new home that is already neutered they should be kept inside for a minimum of 3 weeks to ensure they adjust to their new surroundings and gain security in it being their home.
